3rd Annual
Champlain Valley Sweet
Potato Slip Sale
June 5 & June 6, 2010 - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Hosted
by Red Wagon Plants,
Hinesburg Vermont
to benefit
Friends of Burlington Gardens education programs
Since
2004, Friends of Burlington Gardens has
introduced hundreds of area gardeners to the enjoyable experience of
growing a bountiful crop of sweet potatoes in Vermont! Our plants are
sold at just the right time for planting when the ground is warm and
night temperatures are consistently above 50 degrees.
With the popularity of sweet potatoes
increasing each year, and to accommodate more
customers, FBG began a new partnership with Red Wagon Plants in 2009
and moved our annual sale to the RWP greenhouses in Hinesburg.
Thanks to the
generosity of Julie Rubaud and staff, 100% of
proceeds from the 2010 Sweet Potato Slip Sale will support FBG's
garden-based education
and outreach programs.
Sweet
potatoes are ideal for Champlain Valley gardeners with
sandy, silty, or loam soil. Each
slip can produce up to five pounds of delicious and nutritious Beauregard B-14 sweet
potatoes.
The sweet potato slips will be shipped
to Red Wagon Plants from a
grower
in North Carolina. FBG volunteers will pot the slips to allow them to
root
in time for the sale on June 5 & 6 and be ready for planting in
your garden or farm!
Each 4" pot contains 3 to 4 rooted slips and is priced at
$4.00. Or buy 5 pots of slips and get one pot free!
Bulk pots of slips at quantity pricing will also be available at the
sale for organic farmers and growers.
