 January 2008
  • Time to order your seeds and plan ahead for spring gardening!
  • Order a quality Vermont Indoor Garden  in time for spring seed starting. FBG offers six models to choose from, all made in the U.S. from high quality materials and sold at affordable prices.

  • March 8:  Community Gardens for Vermont Conference at Vermont Technical College in Randolph,       9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Click the link to visit the conference web site.

Spring

April 2008
  • April 12:  Vermont School and Youth Garden Conference at Vermont Law School. 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Click the link to visit the conference web site and download a registration form..
  • April 26:  Basic organic gardening workshop at Ethan Allen Homestead led by Jim Flint;                            register through Lisa Coven at Burlington Parks and Recreation, 863-0420

 May 2008
  • May 1-8: Dig and divide perennial flowers and herbs to donate to the FBG Perennial Plant Sale.  Bring plants to plant sale headquarters at 33 Tracy Drive for potting. Call FBG at 861-4769 for details.
     
  • May 3: Green-up Day in Vermont. Pitch in to help cleanup gardens and neighborhoods. FBG will exhibit at the Green Up Day tent at City Market in Burlington.
     
  • May 10: FBG's 8th Annual Plant Sale at 33 Tracy Drive in Burlington. 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.. Hundreds of  locally grown perernnials. Gates open promptly at 8 a.m.  Click on the link for directions and information.
  • May 31: FBG Sweet Potato Slip Sale at 33 Tracy Drive in Burlington. 8 a.m. - noon. Freshly shipped sweet potato slips are available and ready for planting. Proceeds benefit  garden-based outreach and education programs. For more information contact Jim Flint.

Summer

  July 2008
  • July & August--If you're leaving for vacation, ask a friend to harvest your crops and contribute any surplus to Plant a Row for the Hungry. Visit your garden frequently and enjoy the bounty of  your efforts.

  August 2008
  • August 22: Bring out the best of your veggies and flowers to the Champlain Valley Fair between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.  Exhibit books are available through the Fair Office if you call ahead earlier in the month.  You can receive ribbons and cash premiums for exhibiting!
  • August 25: FBG's Growing Places Annual Summer Newsletter mailed to supporters.

Fall

  September 2008
  • September 13: Corn Roast Dinner and Veggie Ball at Ethan Allen Homestead, Burlington. 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.
  • September 29: Last evening class session at the Community Teaching Garden

  October 2008
  • Time to put your garden to bed and spread fresh compost for next year.

  November 2008
  • November 27:  On Thanksgiving Day, enjoy being with friends and family and reflecting on the goodness of the earth and the bounty of fresh wholesome food provided by Vermont farmers and gardeners.
  • November 30: Friend's of Burlington Garden's Annual Meeting at the Friends Meeting House, Burlington. 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

  December 2008
