Winter

 January 2010
  • Time to order your seeds and plan ahead for spring gardening!
  • Order a quality Vermont Indoor Garden  in time for spring seed starting. FBG offers six models to choose from, all made in the U.S. from high quality materials and sold at affordable prices.
 February 2010
  • February 13-15:  NOFA Vermont Winter Conference at the University of Vermont including dozens of workshops for organic farmers and gardeners. FBG executive director Jim Flint will present the workshop, "How to Start and Sustain a Comunity-based Garden," Saturday, Feb.13 from 3:45 - 5:00 p.m..
  March 2010
  • March 3:  Town Meeting Day in Vermont - be sure to cast your vote!
Spring
  • March 20:  9:30 a.m to noon - Organic Vegetable Gardening 101 Workshop - Robert E. Miller Community and Recreation Center, Burlington. Cosponsored by Burlington Area Community Gardens and Friends of Burlington Gardens. Presented by Jim Flint. $15 Burlington residents; $20 non residents.  Pre-register by calling Burlington Parks and Recreation at 864-0123. Free seeds for participants.
  • March 20:  6:00 p.m.  to 9:00 p.m. - Community potluck supper and film showing of The Garden  First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 21 Buell Street, Burlington. This 2009 documentary about the 14-acre South Central Farm in Los Angeles follows the plight of group of urban farmers to save their community garden from development. The film is unrated and contains brief strong language. Admission is free. Please bring your own place setting and a dish to share for the potluck supper at 6 p.m. The showing at 7 p.m. is cosponsored by Friends of Burlington Gardens. All are welcome to attend the Vermont premier of this Academy Award nominated documentary. For more information email Jim Flint or call 802-861-4769.

 May 2010
  • May 1: Green-up Day in Vermont. Pitch in to help cleanup gardens and neighborhoods. FBG will exhibit at the Green Up Day tent at City Market in Burlington. 
  • Grow Team and FBG
  • May 8:  10th Annual Spring Plant Sale to support neighborhood community gardening in Burlington. Presented by Grow Team ONE and FBG at Roosevelt Park in Burlington, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  June 2010
  • June 5 & 6:  FBG Sweet Potato Slip Sale at Red Wagon Plants in Hinesburg! 10 a.m to 6 p.m. each day.  Pick up some great plants for your garden; 100% of proceeds from sweet potato sales support FBG's garden-based education and outreach programs. Hundreds of slips to be sold!

Summer


  July 2010
  • If you're leaving for vacation, ask a friend to harvest your crops and contribute surplus vegetables to support Plant a Row for the Hungry. Visit your garden frequently and enjoy the bounty of  your efforts.
  August 2010
  • August 27: Kids and grownups -- bring the best of your veggies and flowers to the Champlain Valley Fair between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.  Exhibit books are available through the Fair Office if you call ahead earlier in the month.  Receive ribbons and cash premiums for exhibiting your garden produce!
  • August 28:  Face to face vegetable judging for youth garden exhibits at the Champlain Valley Fair. Judging sessions are at 1 p.m. for children ages 7 to 10, and 3 p.m. for ages 11 to 14. Youth exhibitors who sign up for a judging session will receive free admission to the fairgrounds on August 28. Fall

  September 2010

  • October 2:  Cleanup work project at the Community Teaching Garden; 10 a.m. - noon
  • October 16: Time to put your garden to bed and spread fresh compost for next year. 
  • October 31:  Happy Halloween to Vermont gardeners!
  November 2010
  • November 25:  On Thanksgiving Day, enjoy being with friends and family and reflecting on the goodness of the earth and the bounty of fresh wholesome food provided by Vermont farmers and gardeners.
  December 2010
  • December 1: Friends of Burlington Gardens Annual Board Meeting
