The VCGN builds upon the joint resolution passed by the Vermont legislature in 2004 to support the expansion of community, youth, and school gardening movement statewide.

Federal funding for school community gardens

Senator Bernie Sanders has announced the securing of federal funding to establish a state-wide, school-based summer gardening initiative that teaches Vermont children and youths how to grow fresh produce using land on or adjacent to school campuses. Friends of Burlington Gardens will administer the statewide pilot program as a model for similar programs in other states. For more information click on school community gardens.

Successful Community Gardens Mini-grant Program

The Successful Community Gardens Mini-grant Program began in 2008 and has already helped to establish 18 new community gardens in Vermont. The program is made possible through generous grant funding from the Vermont Community Foundation and the Jan and David Blittersdorf Foundation. The program is currently between grant cycles. New grant cycles are announced via the VCGN e-newsletter.
