Vermont Community Garden Network

The Vermont Community Garden Network (VCGN) is facilitated by Friends of Burlington Gardens as part of its statewide outreach. The VCGN currently includes more than 450 individual members representing more than 120 Vermont communities.

The VCGN builds upon the joint resolution passed by the Vermont legislature in 2004 to support the expansion of community, youth, and school gardening movement statewide.

To subscribe to VT-GARDEN-NET, please send an email to Jim Flint with your name, mailing address, phone # and your affilliation if applicable (e.g. organization, school, garden project, club, or group.) Subscriptions are free.

The VCGN mailing list is maintained by Friends of Burlington Gardens. Email and address information is protected via FBG's privacy policy. Vermont Community Garden Network newsletters and announcments are published and distributed
via the VT-GARDEN-NET email list. Information is included for upcoming gardening events, garden-based resources, and professional development opportunities. FBG maintains a VCGN Member Directory sorted alphabetically by last name. The directory is updated periodically during the year.

VCGN mini-grants


Archibald Neighborhood GardenFor 2008, Friends of Burlington Gardens has secured funding to provide technical assistance and mini-grants for community and school garden projects in the Burlington area and across Vermont.

Thanks to support from The Bay and Paul Foundations, Ben & Jerry's Foundation, and Ronald McDonald House Charities, a total of $15,000 in mini-grants will be awarded May 29 through three mini-grant programs. The mini-grant application deadline was April 16, 2008. For more information, click on 2008 mini-grant programs.

2008 VCGN statewide conferences

The 2008 Vermont School and Youth Garden Conference was held April 12, 2008 at Vermont Law School. The conference was organized by Friends of Burlington Gardens, Food Works, and 4-H Growing Connections.  For program details, click on the link to visit the school and youth garden conference web site.

The Community Gardens for Vermont Conference was held March 8, 2008 at Vermont Technical College with 55 people participating. The conference offered multiple workshops co-presented by community garden organizers from across the state. For program details, click on the link to visit the community garden conference web site.
