  School community gardens in Vermont
Barnes School gardenAll of the school community gardens listed have a food gardening component. While many school community gardens function as group garden projects from planting to harvest, others may include a garden camp, summer lunch program, or summer recreational activities. In several Vermont towns, the school garden is called a "community garden" and may include plots or raised beds that are gardened individually by families in the community. Produce from school community gardens is harvested and eaten by participating students and their families, used in summer nutrition programs and for special events such as harvest dinners, and shared with the community. Some gardens have innovative names and programs to attract volunteers and youth during the summer months. The contact persons listed in the directory are members of the Vermont Community Garden Network. Please email updates to this list to VCGN director Jim Flint.
