Patchwork: stories of
gardens and community
Patchwork includes
a collection of captivating vignettes reflecting on the meaning of
gardening together in community. The book shares the first person
stories of ten community gardeners representing a
diversity of cultural perspectives.
The detailed accounts gathered by Beret Halverson are accompanied by
black and white photographs taken by Jim Flint. Editor’s journal
entries and practical tips provide a "how to" guide for starting and
sustaining a community,
neighborhood, or
youth garden.
As people
search for
community and connections to the land, the stories of Patchwork
reflect on the ways in which culture is created
and
passed down through the medium of gardening. Inspired by Paul
Fleischman's book Seedfolks, Patchwork is
designed to help people from diverse walks of life to better understand
the benefits of community gardening.
