Burlington Blooms
Awards Program

From 2003-05, Friends of Burlington Gardens served as a
judge for the Burlington Blooms Awards entries in the Best Community,
Neighborhood, or Youth Garden category. Nominees were judged on the
overall appearance and maintenance of their garden site, involvement of
community gardeners in the garden, and the creativity of
gardens at the site. Congratulations to the winners and honorable
mentions, which are listed below. The awards program took a break in
2006, but may resume at a future time.

Neighborhood, or Youth Garden Category
Community-based
garden
winners for 2005: Burlington High School
International Garden (1st place), Lakeview Community Garden (2nd
place), and Medical Center Community Garden (3rd place).
Community-based
garden
winners in 2004: Ethan Allen Homestead
Community Garden (1st place), Sara Holbrook Children's Garden (2nd
place), and the Roosevelt
Park Youth Garden (3rd place). The Queen City Park Children's Garden
received an
honorable mention.
Community-based
garden
winners in 2003: Starr Farm Community
Garden (1st place), Ten Stones Community Garden (2nd place), and the
VNA Family Room Garden (3rd place).
Award
winners received Gardener's Supply gift certificates of $250, $150, and
$100 respectively which were used to purchase tools and supplies for
the community, neighborhood, or youth garden.
Special thanks to Gardener's Supply for their generous support and
recognition of community-based gardening.
